| HIV on the airwaves: In partnership with local HIV/AIDS health professional Sila Wainetti (pictured left) and Radio Western in South Fly (station manager Theo Beu pictured above), ADI sponsored 29 live and 29 repeat talkback radio segments called ‘Community Conversations’.
The project aims to change behaviours and attitudes towards HIV/AIDS in local communities.
ADI initially examined four different models of HIV/AIDS programs being used in PNG. We selected ‘Community Conversations’ due to its success overseas and its community focus.
Nestlé and Roche provided financial support for this project.
The radio segments include information on testing; how the disease affects the immune system; infection, transmission and prevention; pregnancy and breastfeeding; grief and loss; and helping communities to find their own solutions.
'Community Conversations' has resulted in an increased number of people presenting for HIV testing as well as increased awareness about the disease.
